Description: 5-Fluorodeoxyuridine is an antineoplastic agent, which acts as an anti-metabolite. When administrated by rapid injection it acts as flurouracil, but when infused slowly, usually intra-arterially, it is converted to active F-dUMP, which leads to enhanced inhibition of DNA synthesis. It inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking thymidylic acid synthetase.
