β-Estradiol is almost insoluble in water. Freely soluble in alcohol; soluble in acetone, dioxane, other organic solvents; solutions of fixed alkali hydroxides; sparingly soluble in vegetable oils; soluble in methanol : CHCl3 (1:1). Dissolve 50 mg/ml in ethanol with heating and observed a clear, colourless solution. It is also soluble in acetone and dioxane but only sparingly soluble in vegetable oils.
