Basic Fuchsin is a cationic triphenylmethane dye.
- Staining of acid fast bacteria
Basic fuchsin is used for the Ziehl-Neelsen and other similar acid fast staining of the mycobacteria which cause tuberculosis, leprosy etc. and is widely used in biology to stain the nucleus.
Soluble in water (2 mg/ml); ethanol (2 mg/ml - clear red solution).
