Ferrous sulphate heptahydrate used in the manufacturing of iron compounds, in electroplating baths, aluminium etching, process engraving and lithography, and in redox polymerisation. It is used as a reducing agent in chemical processes, leather dyes and writing inks.
Also, it is a component of weed killers, wood preservatives and water treatment processes. It is used in prevention of chlorosis in plants and therapeutically as hematinic. In veterinary medicine, it is used as an astringent to combat iron deficiency.
Soluble in water (100 mg/ml); practically insoluble in alcohol.
