Propylene carbonate is a polar, aprotic solvent used in paints and coatings and as a high-permittivity component of electrolytes in lithium batteries.
It plays an important role in adhesives, paint strippers, cosmetics, plasticizer, hard surface cleaner, resin cleaner, fiberglass, polyester and polyurethane cleaner. Furthermore, it acts as a cleaner in polyurethane, a carburetor and is used in stereo lithography parts. In electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, it is doped into low surface tension solutions to enhance analyte charging.
Caution: Moisture sensitive. Hygroscopic. Incompatible with acids and bases.
