Methylglyoxal is the aldehyde form of pyruvic acid
Methylglyoxal is used in formation of secondary organic aerosol. It it may be involved in the formation of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs). Pyruvic aldehyde is used in the synthesis and cytotoxicity evaluation of N-terminal analogues of tubulysin-U an antimitotic compound. Also used in the synthesis of imidazoles as potent calcitonin gene-related CGRP antagonists.
